September 2, 2015 marked FIFTEEN years of being married to Andre Kearns. I launched this site on that day. The Black Lives Matter movement was then and still is personal to us as it demands that America recognizes the dignity and value of all Black people including the man I married. This site is a celebration of our marriage and a recognition of that Black Marriage Matters!

First I have had the time of my life spending these years with him. Second, every day we are surrounded by even longer lasting black marriages. We are blessed that our parents (the Kearns and the Duplessys) have been married for over 45 years. His grandparents and mine also enjoyed long marriages until death parted them. On all sides of our families, in our church, in our circle of friends black people get married, stay married, and die married. Andre is African-American tracing his roots from the first Africans brought to America as slaves.

I was born and grew up in Haiti, moved to the US at age eleven, and retain strong ties to Haitian culture and Haiti. We connect through our shared experiences living our lives as Black people and our strong commitment to uplift black people no matter where they live in this world. Being Black is central to our respective identity and our marriage. What we have is a Black Marriage and that matters to me in ways big and small.

What I know for sure is that our Black marriage is no more special than the millions of black marriages/unions that have endured slavery, reconstruction, segregation, and modern days injustices and inequalities. No matter what the state of Black life in America is I remain committed to loving and buttressing Andre Kearns because his life matters to me deep down in my soul!
