Today for our 17th wedding anniversary I am thinking of all the reasons why I am still in love with Andre and why our marriage works for us. I hope sharing this inspires you to think of the love and marriage you have or want to have!

• Reasons 1 through 10 – Commitment is so important that it is reason one through 10. From the time we were dating through today, Andre has shown his commitment to the relationship in ways big and small. He is completely committed to being a great husband and dad. Every day we know we are his everything.

• Reason 11 – Clear Communication -He works at clearly communicating what he means. He says what he means and means what he says.

• Reason 12 – Fair fighter - What I mean is a big disagreement is always a fair fight where he has no intention to win at all cost. We both walk away with a deeper understanding of each other.

• Reason 13 – Celebrate Everything -  He shows us and cheers me on for all things. Boyfriend Andre showed up at my US Citizenship ceremony with flowers and a US flag. I knew then that he would celebrate any and everything I do.

• Reason 14 – Challenge Me - My ancestors fought France for freedom from slavery to build our own country. It is in my Haitian blood to be proud and unyielding but that’s not always best for me. When I get hell bent on something, I need Andre to challenge my thinking and actions.

• Reason 15 – First a Friend - Andre is first a friend which is important. If your love treats you less than he would a friend that’s a problem.

• Reason 16 – Sexy - I am talking about being what my college friends used to call IS – Intellectually Sexy. Our conversations are lit (as the kids say these days).

• Reason 17 - Growth -When we were dating he told me that who he is would not change. At first I thought that’s not good. Now I know it’s a great thing. Marriage should not come with expectation that the person will change but that you two can grow together.
